How to Apply For Ontario Emergency Assistance?

If you are in a crisis or emergency situation and do not have enough money. This guide will teach you how to seek short-term financial assistance. Follow the steps and learn all you need to know.

To apply, contact your local Ontario Works office if you reside in a First Nations community or are under the age of 18.

Overview of Emergency Assistance

If you reside in Ontario and are in need of help, you may be eligible for emergency assistance.

If you qualify for emergency help. Your particular circumstances will determine the amount you receive. In most situations, you will not get more than what is available via Ontario Works.

Requirements of Emergency Assistance

If you reside in Ontario (not as a visitor or tourist), are in a crisis or emergency conditions, and are unable to pay for necessities like as food and accommodation, you may be eligible. A crisis or emergency condition is defined as, for example:

You are about to be ejected from your house.
Are in an abusive relationship or have recently left one.

If you are in the following condition, you are not eligible:

Apply for Emergency Assistance of Ontario

You can apply online or by phoning the Ontario Works office in your area.

You and your family can only submit one application.

If you want to apply online, here are the steps you’ll need to do. Applying it will take around 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 1: Technical requirements

To complete your online application smoothly, you will need to have the latest version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Edge browsers updated to the latest version.

Step 2: Collect the required information and submit your application.

You’ll need the following items:

Sensitive information about yourself and your family.

Total income and assets accessible to your household.
Details about your bank account (if you have one) so that you can get your money immediately.

Step 3: A local Ontario Work office will review the application.

A worker from your local Ontario Works office will review your application for eligibility.
