Bc AHP Overview

Through a variety of health supports and services, the At Home Program (AHP) helps parents with some of the high expenses of caring for a child with severe impairments at home. The At Home Program is still accepting applications on a temporary basis. If your kid looks to satisfy the AHP eligibility requirements and is likely to be qualified for the At Home Program, they may be provisionally accepted without an evaluation. Children who are presently on the AHP will keep their status until assessors become available.

Admissions in a Hurry

For urgent admissions, the AHP admissions procedures remain unaltered. For urgent admissions, eligibility committees and regional advisers will follow a set of procedures.

These admissions will be classified as “urgent admits” under the Medical Benefits program and will be followed by CYSN social workers for follow-up AHP evaluations.

Provides funds to buy respite care for children who qualify.

Families may choose the sort of respite services that best meet their requirements, whether at home or elsewhere.

Medical Insurance Benefits

On the suggestion of a relevant regulated health care practitioner, provides one or more of the following:

Medically necessary equipment and supplies; hearing aids; disability-related dental, optical, and orthodontic treatments; school-aged children’s extended therapies; medical transportation; PharmaCare coverage; and premium-free MSP coverage

Requirements for apply for the AHP?

The AHP is designed for children with severe impairments who need assistance in a variety of areas. Children and teenagers who are deemed dependent in three or more of the four areas of daily life (eating, dressing, toileting, and washing) are eligible for medical or respite benefits. Both advantages are available to those who are dependant in all four categories.

Those with specific degenerative illnesses (Duchene’s Muscular Dystrophy, Spinal Atrophy Type II), and those getting direct nursing care via Nursing Support Services are also eligible for one or both benefits.

Children and teens must be British Columbia residents and members of the British Columbia Medical Services Plan.

The At Home Program is not available to children or parents who have received an insurance settlement or a court award relating to their child’s handicap.

Apply For The British Columbia AHP (At Home Program)

To apply for the AHP benefit you must follow the steps below:

Step #3: After receiving your application, the program will call you to schedule an in-home evaluation of your child or teen’s ability in four functional daily living tasks (eating, dressing, toileting and washing). The following items may be included in the evaluation:

Make contact with other health care professionals to discuss the needs and abilities of the kid or adolescent.

Observing the youngster or adolescent in a different situation

When the evaluation is finished, parents will get a copy.

Step #4: After the evaluation is completed, the application and assessment are reviewed by a regional committee. Which makes an eligibility recommendation to the At Home Program.

Step #5: Parents get a letter informing them of the final decision. And if their child or adolescent is qualified for the program. A social worker for children and teenagers with special needs (CYSN). Will contact them to discuss their needs and alternative options.

The AHP Coordinator will analyze the application and, if necessary, schedule an evaluation. A competent assessor will call the family and set up a meeting with the kid or adolescent and his or her family. The AHP Coordinator or the assessor may also call the referring physician or other health care experts if further medical information is needed.

Support During a Respite

Families receiving Direct Funded or At Home Program respite may spend the usual amount of $3,080 per year in a flexible way until March 31, 2022. For agreements that conclude before March 31, 2022, families do not need to account for expenditures related to the standard amount.
