How to Apply for Ontario Child Benefit (OCB)?
OCB Overview
The Ontario Child Benefit helps low- and moderate-income families with the costs of raising children by providing up to $1,461 per child each year. This benefit is available to you whether or not you are employed.
Requirements of Ontario Child Benefit
If you meet the following criteria, you may be eligible for the OCB, depending on your family’s income:
- If you are the primary caregiver for a kid under the age of 18.
- Are a resident of the province of Ontario.
- Have submitted and had your prior year’s tax return evaluated, as well as your spouse or common-law partner.
- Have you applied for the federal Canada Child Tax Benefit for your child.
OCB will send you your monthly payment
The Ontario Child Benefit can be worth up to $1,461 per child per year, based on the following factors:
- Your household’s total revenue.
- The amount of children under the age of 18 under your care.
- If you are qualified, you will get a monthly payment.
Your monthly payments are determined by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The amount you get is determined on your adjusted family net income as reported on your annual tax return.

The OCB does not require an application. To apply for the benefit and receive it, you must first apply for the Canada Child Benefit. How to Apply for Ontario Child Care Fee Subsidy?
About Ontario Child Care Fee Subsidy
Families could apply for a child care fee subsidy in Ontario. The Ontario government, municipal governments, and First Nations communities all contribute to the expense of this program.
Requirements of the Subsidy
If your children is under the age of 13 (or up to 18 if your child has special needs and satisfies additional criteria*), you can apply in either:
- A child care center with a license (centre-based, home-based or in-home services).
- A youngster who is participating in a “children’s recreation program.”
- It’s a camp.
- A direct-operated before- and after-school program run by a school board.
Note: On August 31, 2015, the Child Care and Early Years Act of 2014 (CCEYA) went into force. While the CCEYA defines a “child” as someone under the age of 13, children with special needs who entered the child care system before August 31, 2017 may be eligible for funding and financial assistance under the CCEYA until they turn 18 if they meet other eligibility criteria that are unrelated to age.
Funding of Ontario Subsidy
Your family’s adjusted net income will determine the cost of child care.
To figure out your net income, do the following:
- Fill out line 236 of the Canada Revenue Agency’s personal income tax form with your net income.
After that, subtract:
- Any payments from the government Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) (the UCCB is not taken into account when establishing a family’s child care charge subsidies)
